Budapest Weekend

Budapest Weekend

from 120.00

24-26 March 2017

Brody House, Budapest

This is Trouble: the Europe Edition. Relations with our continental neighbours have been rather fraught this year. Let's go and make them a little worse by taking Trouble, and its gin-drinking abilities, to Europe. Only joking. Or may only half-joking....

Our first expedition is to Budapest, and it will be as you've never seen it before. And if you haven't been, you should definitely come to one of Europe's great capitals. Our host for the weekend is the stunning Brody House, a hotel and private members' club in the Palace Quarter of the city - quite a special place.

This will be a unique opportunity to see Budapest through the medium of its art, architecture, history and its people, and through personal tours of the city. Over breakfast and dinner we will be talking Brexit, Syria and, of course, women. Confirmed speakers include Jack Monroe and Kate Maltby, with many more to come. There will also be an opportunity to meet some rather special people from Budapest's cultural, political and business worlds. And in case that all sounds a little heavy, the bar at Brody House mixes a fine cocktail from about noon.

For more info, click on the picture of Brody House above and scroll down. If you've held Trouble membership in the past, please choose "Trouble Cardholder" for £120. If not, "Guest" for £135.

Delegates Fee

The fee above is for attending the weekend, and for the Saturday night supper. You pay for the flights and accommodation yourself, which are very reasonable. Flights, accommodation and delegate fee should come in at around £500 if you book early enough to get the cheap flights, which isn't bad for an amazing and unusual weekend away. See below for how it works:

Outline programme

Friday eve: meet at the bar of Brody House and out to a local restaurant for supper and introductions
Saturday: Opening talks on Europe,  mini "soap-box" talks from our own Troublistas, an afternoon of politics or culture, with a special insider tours of the city, a keynote speaker (tba) and a smart dinner at Brody House
Sunday morning: Morning coffee with our local Budapest counterparts, and a closing debate and farewell lunch at Brody House.

Getting there (from London): recommended flights

Our first event takes place at 7pm on Friday 24th at Brody House and our last event finishes at around 1pm local time. If you want to experience the full programme we recommend the following flights, which are pretty cheap at the moment.

  • British Airways: Friday 24th March leaving Heathrow at 8am, landing at 11.25am, return Sunday 26th March on departing Budapest @19.10pm and landing at 20.50pm.
  • Wizz Air: Friday 24th March depart from LTN at 8.15am, arrive in Budapest at 11.40am. Return on Sunday 26th March leaving Budapest 18.40 arriving at LTN 20.15.
  • Easy Jet: Deapart from Gatwick Friday 24th March @8.20am and land at 11.45am. Return Sunday 26th March on either 16.00 or 21.55pm landing at 17.40 or 23.40.
  • Ryan Air and Norwegian Air also fly to Budapest.

It takes around 45m by public transport from the airport to Brody House, or you can hop in a cab. As most of the flights land at a similar time on the Friday you should be able to share with Troublistas. The best way to co-ordinate is via the Trouble Facebook group:

Booking your accommodation: Brody House has 11 stunning rooms, reasonably priced and even better to share with another Troublista. You can see them here: http://brodyhouse.com/42/rooms There are also the beautiful Brody Apartments. To book please call or email the hotel and say you are with the Trouble group as they have already block-boooked our rooms on their online system.

If you'd like to share, don't be shy - be friendly! Put your hand up in the Facebook group

The Saturday night formal dinner, and all tours and talks are included the delegate fee. Other food and drink will be separate, but prices are very reasonable by London standards. And do feel free to bring a bottle of sparkly through from Duty Free.
